I found this article a little disturbing - both for the lack of a moral compass I see in these researchers as well as the lack of common sense.  According to the Associated Press, "Researchers at Newcastle University and the NorthEast England Stem Cell Institute say they used a new technique to derive what they described as sperm cells from embryonic stem cells."  Note that these sperm cells were made using "embryonic stem cells."  Translation: an embryo, a baby, was destroyed so that this experiment could be carried out.  Now, that strikes me as amoral.  But this strikes me as illogical and lacking in common sense: one of the researches claims that "the technique would allow researchers to study how sperm develops and possibly help develop treatments for infertile men." So, you destroyed the life of an embryo (a baby) so that you could come up with a treatment to help people have babies?  Frustration abounds.

I want to bring some reading recommendations to you today – a little Bible and a little theology – for kids.  I’ve been using “The Big Picture Story Bible” with Nate and Calvin for a couple of months now.  It is really helpful for painting the “big picture” of the story of redemption.  From Creation to New Creation, this great story Bible weaves together major biblical themes to show your child (and you!) how all these great stories are really one story.  It’s divided into 26 “Parts” so you can read it easily in a month.  Most of the time the boys beg me to read “two parts” a night, so that we go through it in about 3 weeks.

So that’s a dose of Bible for you and your kids.  Now you need a good dose of theology.  A new book that has come out recently will really help you to know how to talk about and teach theology to your kids.  The book is titled "Big Truths for Young Hearts."  It is written by Bruce Ware, a professor of theology at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and shows the ways in which he took doctrine from his classroom to his home to teach his daughters.  This is one of the best resources I have found for helping parents first learn theology and then learn how to communicate that theology to their children.
